R&D Technician - new job in South Yorkshire, UK

R&D Technician required on a permanent basis, based in South Yorkshire. Requiring a degree in Chemistry (or similar) with proven industrial experience of developing coatings/inks/paints/lubricants.

SRG are currently working with a successful, family-run business that develop and manufacture a range of industrial coating and lubricant products. Based in South Yorkshire, they are now looking to hire a new R&D Technician to join their technical team. Due to an ongoing expansion, this role will include working on the formulation and development of coating products in particular, and may involve other products such as lubricants, carbon materials and products used for friction applications. This role would suit candidates that have proven industrial experience of formulating and development products such as paints, inks, coatings and lubricants.

Role / Description
- Develop both new and existing formulations for coatings and lubricants
- Manage new product development from concept through to product launch
- Test products and raw materials using a wide range of analytical techniques e.g., XRD, SEM, TGA, DSC, BET, rheological behaviour, and particle size analysis
- Attend customer trials and provide technical support
- Work closely with QC and Operations to oversee manufacture of new developments and solve any issues on plant
- Carry out COSHH assessments and maintain appropriate records
- Work to strict quality protocols using standard laboratory practices and SOPs
- Report work in a timely and accurate manner
- Remain up to date with current developments in the market
- General maintenance of laboratory areas and equipment
Requirements
- Degree preferred in Chemistry (or similar)
- Proven industrial experience of formulating and developing coatings/inks/paints/lubricants
- Self-motivated and pro-active, with a willingness to learn
- Good problem-solving and communication skills
- Good attention to detail and able to manage own projects
