SRG is working with remarkable company specialising in scientific technologies to support the food and beverage industries. With an excellent reputation in this sector, they are currently looking for a new Microbiologist to join their team based in Surrey, who will work on the research, development and analysis of yeast strains. This role will involve using a range of microbiological techniques and bespoke methods - including media prep, inoculation and culturing, microscopy, analysis and method development - to produce yeast products in line with customer projects. This would be a brilliant role for an MSc or PhD-qualified Microbiologist who has hands-on experience (in academia or industry) working with yeast, mould or other fungal microorganisms. We also welcome applications from BSc-qualified graduate who have several years of industrial experience in this area.

Role / Description
- Working in the laboratory to analyse and tailor yeast products to client requirements and timelines
- Preparation of culture media and laboratory reagents
- Inoculating media with yeast strains for culture
- Production and packaging of yeast products for internal stock and external demand
- Analysing yeast stock, as well as yeast samples obtained from customers
- Storing yeast samples in and recovering samples from liquid nitrogen systems
- Developing new microbiological methods
- Carrying out routine microbiological QC testing of samples
- Preparing project reports for and liaising with clients regularly for technical support and consultancy
- Supporting the maintenance of ISO 9001, GMP and HACCP quality standards in the lab
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Microbiology or closely related discipline (BSc- qualified candidates with relevant industrial experience will also be considered)
- Hands-on experience (academic or industrial) using microbiological techniques to study, analyse or culture yeast, mould or other fungal organisms or similar microorganisms
- Strong practical skills in microbiology, microscopy, culturing techniques and quantitative microbiological methods
- Knowledge/understanding of ISO 9001, GMP and/or HACCP
- An interest in brewing/beer-making/fermenting would be highly advantageous!
- Must be a non-smoker for Health & Safety reasons
