About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Facilities Engineer to join our Engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of site facilities, utilities, infrastructure, and contractor management within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing maintenance strategies, ensuring the reliability of critical building services, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and external service providers to ensure operational excellence across all facilities and utility systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, coordinate, and manage planned preventative maintenance activities through the CMMS system.
- Ensure the reliable operation and maintenance of site facilities, infrastructure, utilities, and associated plant equipment.
- Manage all aspects of contractor control, including inductions, permits to work, risk assessments, method statements, and performance reviews.
- Lead facilities-related projects from concept through to implementation, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
- Develop and manage the annual Facilities Engineering budget and support delivery of the site's Annual Operating Plan.
- Raise purchase orders through SAP and manage expenditure effectively.
- Identify, source, and maintain critical spare parts to support business continuity.
- Support the effective operation of site utilities including HVAC systems, compressed air systems, lighting, fire protection systems, and building infrastructure.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using TPM and reliability-focused maintenance principles.
- Support compliance with GMP, quality systems, and regulatory requirements.
- Investigate technical issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Maintain the highest standards of health, safety, housekeeping, and environmental compliance.
- Provide technical support, coaching, and guidance to colleagues and contractors where required.
About You
You will be a hands-on engineering professional with strong facilities management experience and a passion for delivering high standards in safety, quality, and operational performance.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in Facilities Engineering, Building Services, or Infrastructure Management.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, compressed air systems, building utilities, fire systems, lighting, and associated infrastructure.
- Experience managing external contractors and service providers.
- Knowledge of Permit to Work systems, risk assessments, method statements, and contractor safety management.
- Experience working with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Ability to diagnose technical issues and implement practical engineering solutions.
- Experience within a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Strong planning, organisational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Cleanroom facilities experience, including ISO Class 8 environments.
- Knowledge of FDA, GMP, and quality system requirements within Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, or Life Science industries.
- Experience managing CAPEX and site improvement projects.
- Knowledge of SAP purchasing and maintenance systems.
- Experience implementing TPM or reliability-centred maintenance practices.
Qualifications
- HNC/HND in Mechanical, Electrical, Facilities, Building Services, or a related Engineering discipline.
- NVQ Level 4, City & Guilds, or equivalent technical qualifications desirable.
- IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH General Certificate, or equivalent health and safety qualification desirable.
- Contractor Management training desirable.
- Management qualification such as ILM or equivalent is advantageous.
