Senior Electronic Engineer

Sedgefield | Onsite role | £45,000 - £57,000

About the Role:

CPI is seeking a Senior Electronic Engineer to play a key role in delivering end‑to‑end product development, taking ideas from a blank page through to prototype and beyond.

This is a highly hands‑on, technically demanding role for an engineer who is comfortable shaping early‑stage concepts, working directly with customers, and navigating the realities of real‑world product development within quality‑driven industries such as medical devices, healthtech, and regulated engineering environments.

You will work across multiple engineering disciplines, contributing deep electronic engineering expertise while collaborating closely with software, mechanical, product, and quality teams. This role offers significant ownership, variety, and visibility across the full product lifecycle.

What You'll Be Responsible For:

Blank‑Page Product Development

  • Take projects from initial concept and blank‑page design through to prototype delivery
  • Translate high‑level ideas into clear technical requirements and engineering solutions
  • Lead early‑stage technical decision‑making in ambiguous or evolving project environments

Customer & Pre‑Project Engagement

  • Engage directly with customers during pre‑project scoping and onboarding
  • Confidently present technical concepts, design approaches, and trade‑offs
  • Help shape workflows and technical direction at the front end of projects

Electronic Design & Troubleshooting

  • Deliver joined‑up electronic engineering activities including:
    • Component selection
    • Schematic capture and PCB design
    • System integration and testing
  • Perform component‑level troubleshooting on complex electronic systems
  • Contribute to prototype build, debug, and iteration cycles

Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Work within established Quality Management Systems (QMS)
  • Apply engineering best practice in regulated or regulation‑ready environments
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and ways of working

Tools and standards exposure may include:

  • ISO 13485, IEC 60601, or similar regulated frameworks
  • Medical device, health tech, or high‑reliability product environments

About You:

You are an experienced electronic engineer who enjoys ownership, variety, and responsibility. You are comfortable working in uncertainty, confident engaging with customers, and motivated by seeing products move from concept to reality.

You'll bring:

  • Strong experience in end‑to‑end electronic product development
  • Confidence starting with a blank page and shaping complete solutions
  • Hands‑on PCB and system‑level electronics expertise
  • Experience working within QMS‑driven industries (e.g. medical devices, health tech, regulated engineering)
  • A practical, detail‑focused approach to troubleshooting and delivery

Highly desirable:

  • Proficiency with Altium for schematic capture and PCB layout
  • Experience contributing to the development of medical or health tech devices
  • A track record of completed projects that you can talk through end to end

CPI will support further training where needed, but existing hands‑on capability is strongly preferred.

Why Join CPI?

  • Work on challenging, real products from concept to prototype
  • Strong exposure to healthcare, medtech, and regulated innovation
  • High degree of technical autonomy and ownership
  • Collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment
  • Competitive salary (£45k-£57k) and onsite role

Location & Working Pattern

  • Based at CPI's Sedgefield site, On-site
  • Increased on‑site presence may be required during active project phases
