You'll be joining an established, innovation‑driven organisation operating within the healthcare and regulated consumer products space. The business develops and manufactures specialist products used globally, with a strong emphasis on quality, efficacy, and regulatory compliance.
Within the organisation, the Product Development function sits at the heart of innovation. The team works cross‑functionally with manufacturing, supply chain, regulatory, clinical and commercial teams to translate product concepts into reliable, scalable solutions that meet both customer needs and regulatory expectations. This is a highly collaborative environment, ideal for someone who values technical ownership and real‑world application of formulation science.
The Role of the Formulation & Application Specialist
In this role, you will be responsible for progressing new formulations from early‑stage concepts through development and toward manufacturing readiness. You'll apply scientific judgement, structured experimentation, and practical problem‑solving to ensure formulations are effective, stable, and fit for purpose. Experience with product development is highly desirable.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and developing new formulations based on briefs or target product profiles
- Translating performance requirements into practical formulation strategies
- Selecting suitable raw materials, ingredients, and technologies
- Preparing and evaluating laboratory prototypes for feasibility, stability, and performance
- Creating clear formulation development plans and progressing work through iterative design cycles
- Conducting application testing, informal stability studies, benchmarking, and compatibility assessments
- Troubleshooting formulation issues to improve performance, robustness, and manufacturability
- Using experimental data to guide formulation decisions and assess risk
- Supporting scale‑up activities, considering processing requirements and manufacturing constraints
- Maintaining clear laboratory records, formulation histories, and technical documentation
- Providing regular technical updates to stakeholders and supporting project planning activities
The Ideal Candidate for the Formulation & Application Specialist Role
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- A BSc (or higher) in chemistry, life sciences, or a closely related subject
- Recent Practical experience in formulation development and product development within a regulated environment
- Recent experience assessing application performance of consumable or applied products
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a methodical, data‑driven approach
- Excellent organisation, time‑management, and communication skills
- The ability to work collaboratively across R&D, manufacturing, commercial and regulatory teams
Desirable experience includes:
- Knowledge of regulated product areas such as BPR, MDR, or cosmetics
- Experience generating technical documentation to support product claims, registrations, and QMS requirements
- Involvement in successful product development from concept through scale‑up and launch
