A leading organisation within the polymer and materials sector is seeking a skilled Varnish Chemist to join their Research & Development function. This role supports the creation and optimisation of specialist varnish systems used within high‑performance printing applications. What you'll be doing
- Designing, developing and refining oxidatively‑curing varnish systems for printing applications
- Selecting and assessing raw materials to ensure performance, compliance, and cost‑effectiveness
- Conducting resin synthesis, preparing varnishes and inks, and carrying out analytical and print performance testing
- Identifying and resolving formulation challenges to enhance product consistency and durability
- Supporting regulatory compliance and contributing to environmentally responsible, low‑VOC developments
- Working closely with colleagues across R&D and production, managing multiple projects and communicating progress clearly
What we're looking for
- Strong experience in formulation and resin synthesis
- Solid understanding of polymer chemistry and formulation science
- Practical laboratory experience in synthesis, testing, and product evaluation
- Awareness of pigment, solvent, additive, and varnish interactions
- Degree (BSc or higher) in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science or a related field
