Temporary contract (12 months) with good chance of going permanent

Hours - 37.5 hours per week

SRG is working with a specialist researcher in the biotech sector who are hiring for a new member of their formulation and physical chemistry team. Initially the job would for a 12-month period but has a good chance of going permanent, with potential opportunity to move into other areas of the business. The role will consist of preparing compounds for testing and solving problems relating to chemical formulations. The role would suit someone with good hands-on experience in laboratory work, preferably from within an industrial role.

Role Description

  • Preparing and testing chemical compounds for application on higher plants in on‑site glasshouse facilities, including accurate solution preparation using laboratory pipetting techniques
  • Developing and supporting formulation workflows, addressing compound insolubility, preparing field‑ready formulations, and supporting non‑standard experiments involving safeners or mixing partners
  • Executing high‑throughput testing at pace, meeting regular deadlines while collaborating closely with the formulation, glasshouse, and operations teams
  • Recording, processing, and managing experimental and field trial data, maintaining electronic lab notebooks and using tools such as CDD, Mosaic, KNIME, and Power BI with a high level of accuracy
  • Contributing to efficient and safe lab operations, including lab management, safety compliance, protocol and risk assessment development, and supporting evolving business and team needs, including occasional travel

  • Requirements
  • A degree in chemistry or microbiology would be ideal although equivalent industry experience will be considered
  • Recent hands-on laboratory experience
  • Knowledge of laboratory processes and sample preparation techniques (ideally within crop protection although other areas will be considered)
  • Able to commute to the North Yorkshire area on a daily basis or relocate
  • Full right to work in the UK
