About the Role

Join a 10-chemist Production team focused on small-scale manufacture (5L-20L) of flavour and fragrance (F&F) chemicals for the global food industry.

Role:

Synthetic organic chemistry techniques

  • You'll be applying well-established methods of organic synthesis to produce flavour and fragrance compounds. This includes reactions such as esterifications, reductions, oxidations, and condensations, often requiring precise control of temperature, pH, and reagent addition. A strong understanding of reaction mechanisms and lab safety is essential

Routine manufacturing and new process introduction

  • Your daily tasks will involve the consistent production of chemical batches according to existing protocols. Additionally, you'll contribute to scaling up and optimising new synthetic routes.

Distillation as the main purification method

  • Post-synthesis, you'll use distillation-often under reduced pressure-to purify products. This requires familiarity with equipment like rotary evaporators, short-path distillation setups, and vacuum pumps, as well as an understanding of boiling points and separation techniques

Lab-based work in one of two Production lab

  • You'll be stationed in one of the company's dedicated production laboratories, equipped for small-scale chemical synthesis (typically 5L-20L). The environment is hands-on and collaborative, with a focus on precision, safety, and quality control.

Person:

A degree in chemistry

  • You must hold a formal qualification in chemistry, ideally with a focus on organic synthesis. This provides the foundational knowledge required for the role's technical demands.

Enthusiasm and a desire to learn

  • The company values individuals who are passionate about chemistry and eager to grow professionally. You should be motivated to understand new processes, improve your skills, and contribute to the team's success.

Good team player

  • Collaboration is key in the production environment. You'll be working closely with other chemists, so being cooperative, communicative, and respectful of others' input is essential.
