Test Engineer - new job in Cambridge, UK

The Test Engineer will be responsible for testing, calibrating, prototyping and assembly of a novel diagnostic platform. The candidate must have a practical, hands-on approach, with experience of manual assembly processes and laboratory test equipment.
The role supports the product development team in a broad range of areas including device assembly, troubleshooting and testing. Testing will include mechanical assemblies, electronic circuits, prototype and final designs. An essential ability, is to closely follow test protocols, accurately recording the data and when required, writing test protocols and reports. A working knowledge of ISO13485 and FDA 21 CFR 820 is an advantage. The candidate must have excellent organizational skills, including the ability to evaluate and handle multiple subprojects and priorities.
Essential Functions
- Conduct engineering tests on prototype devices and accurately record observations and generate data.
- Follow written procedures in the assembly of medical devices.
- Maintains records for various assemblies and build standards.
- Record and report any quality, process, equipment or product issues.
- Recommend improvements to processes as necessary.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacture.
- Cross train other individuals in processes as necessary
- Sets up experimental test equipment, materials, and data acquisition with minimal supervision.
- Compilation of protocols and technical reports
Required Education and Experience
- Degree in engineering discipline
- Ability to use a wide variety of test equipment.
- Excellent written and verbal skills to enable accurate transfer of data, information and knowledge.
- Ability to work with attention to detail, good observational skills and high levels of accuracy.
- Ability to read engineering instructions and drawings.
- Hands-on experience building and testing electromechanical systems including electronic, measurement, software, fluidic, optical, and thermal control subsystems.
- Experience with fluid handling using pipettes and similar laboratory tools.
- Adhere to the Company's quality policy (Quality System Procedures, Work Instructions, Forms, etc.).
Advantageous experience and skills
- Medical device or other regulated industry experience.
- Start-up R&D environment experience.
- Experience of working in a glove box or similar equipment.
- Maintaining a 5S working environment.
