Laboratory technician
Rate: 13.19/ hour
Location: Bracknell
Contract Length: 12 months

Role purpose
Laboratory Technician responsible for executing and monitoring multiple routine biochemical and whole organism assays, delivering high quality data to be used to support the selection of chemical hits for promotion to the next stage of the invention pipeline.
Accountabilities
  • Work with moderate degree of supervision as a scientist working on several assays across indications
  • Responsible for maintaining some insect cultures required for assays
  • Maintain any stock and equipment items required to perform your assays tasks, plan and execute the assay following the SOP.
  • Execute assigned assays tasks to a consistently high standard.
  • Communicate any assay issues or new processes to team and Responsible Scientists
  • Support and perform trouble-shooting testing, ensuring collaboration and communication with relevant experts in the team.
  • Support the development of existing and new methods by performing bespoke tests designed by technical leads.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and effective laboratory environment by setting high standards. Contribute to the setting of HSE standards, ensure DEFRA containment rules are upheld and always maintain a safe and cooperative working environment
  • Attend meetings to discuss any assay performance issues.
  • Contribute to projects that improve procedures or technological advancement as part of a project team within Discovery Biology.
Knowledge, experience & capabilities
This section captures the capabilities that an employee needs to effectively perform the role from the outset. These could be either technical /non-technical and should be achievable for an individual not currently occupying this role.
  • Candidate must have a minimum of an A level/Btech Biological qualification.
  • Good organisation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good communication skills: oral and written
  • Good scientific background and a willingness to broaden/deepen knowledge around assigned assays.
  • Willingness to engage with new technology and digital projects.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programmes.
