Electrical Design Engineer
Overview of the Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Electrical Engineer with experience in the water or wastewater sector to join an established Electrical Design Engineering team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing detailed Electrical and Instrumentation designs for Water and Wastewater Treatment facilities. The role involves managing and delivering design work efficiently within agreed timeframes and budgets, while ensuring high technical standards.
You will collaborate closely with managers, engineers, internal and external stakeholders, suppliers, and clients, requiring strong communication and organisational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with electrical utility providers as required.
- Design and select instrumentation for water and wastewater processes.
- Review and interpret specifications from both industrial and municipal clients.
- Prepare detailed electrical technical designs and submission documents.
- Design electrical distribution systems and general building services (lighting, fire/intruder alarms, containment systems, etc.).
- Design and develop electrical panels, including schematic review (e.g., MCC, LCP, MDB).
- Develop automation hardware layouts and system network architecture.
- Prepare cable, I/O, and power schedules.
- Evaluate and select subcontractors and suppliers.
- Prepare procurement specifications and assess quotations.
- Work collaboratively with other internal departments such as design, contracts, and automation teams.
- Update and interpret single line diagrams, panel schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Prepare Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) documentation and attend FATs when required.
- Develop control philosophies.
- Ensure compliance with relevant Irish, European, and industry standards (e.g., IEC, WIMES).
- Undertake occasional site visits to support design activities.
Skills & Qualifications
- Level 7 or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience in the water or wastewater treatment industry is advantageous.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong IT proficiency.
- Solid technical knowledge and problem‑solving ability.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Customer‑focused and self‑motivated.

- EU/EEA nationals will be required to provide proof of their right to work.
- Non‑EU/EEA nationals must hold valid permission to work and reside in Ireland.
