This internship is full‑time and based at Montrose - Angus, Scotland

GSK's Montrose site is a key UK manufacturing facility producing active pharmaceutical ingredients for major medicines, including treatments for respiratory disease, HIV and vaccines. The site has seen significant long‑term investment in state‑of‑the‑art facilities, strengthening its role in GSK's global supply network. Montrose is recognised for its advanced manufacturing capability and highly skilled workforce.

The Internship will start between the end of May and July.

Duration

The Role - Mechanical Engineering, Montrose

Eligible degrees: Applicants should be studying Mechanical Engineering or a mechanical engineering discipline.

About the role

This placement sits within the Engineering organisation at the Montrose manufacturing site, which produces a range of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) used in respiratory, dermatological and HIV medicines.

You will work with the Production Engineering team, a multidisciplinary group providing engineering support across five major manufacturing areas. The team includes Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Inspection, HVAC Engineering, Reliability Engineering, and Engineering Maintenance.

Day‑to‑day, the department:

  • Responds to plant breakdowns to restore equipment availability
  • Works on long‑term improvements to plant efficiency, operability, maintainability, and compliance
  • Supports utilities, site infrastructure strategies, and wider engineering problem‑solving across the business

What You'll Experience

  • Maintenance Planning & Execution
    Establishing and implementing maintenance tasks and plans to ensure equipment reliability and availability.
  • Engineering Design Improvements
    Identifying and proposing mechanical design changes to improve plant performance, operability, or safety.
  • Engineering Standards & Compliance
    Supporting actions that enhance compliance with engineering standards, procedures, and regulatory expectations.
  • Problem-Solving & Root Cause Thinking
    Exposure to engineering investigations, breakdown analysis, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Cross-Functional Engineering Collaboration
    Working with mechanical inspection, HVAC, reliability, and maintenance teams to understand the full lifecycle of plant equipment.
  • Technical Skills Development
    Strengthening data analysis, communication, time management, teamwork, and practical engineering skills in a live manufacturing environment.
