Role Purpose
The Process Experimentalist will provide experimental and technical support for both new and existing processes and products. This role focuses primarily on particle science and powder handling, including compaction, flowability, and physical characterisation, while also supporting wider process technology projects in fine chemical processing and manufacturing.
The position contributes scientific data and insights to global agrochemical production sites, ensuring improved process understanding, enhanced product performance, and more efficient manufacturing operations. This includes supporting solids‑state characterisation and offering technical interpretation to influence scale‑up and plant-level applications.
Key Accountabilities
- Apply and uphold all HSE standards, working in full compliance with company, site, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and execute laboratory programmes to assess powder handling properties and particle characteristics under guidance from the Team Leader.
- Generate clear reports, summaries, and presentations to communicate progress and final results to project teams and stakeholders.
- Contribute to intellectual property creation through inventions, designs, know‑how, process understanding, and other innovative outputs.
Critical Success Factors & Key Challenges
- Demonstrate strong scientific and technical ownership by applying particle science expertise to problem-solving and project delivery.
- Develop a robust understanding of solids processing unit operations and translate laboratory-scale data effectively into commercial manufacturing contexts.
- Communicate effectively and work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary environment to deliver shared project goals.
Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities
Essential
- Bachelor's degree (minimum) in a physical science or engineering discipline such as:
- Chemistry
- Chemical Engineering
- Materials Science
- Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Physics
- Laboratory experience in physical property measurement (e.g., melting point, solubility, spectroscopy, surface area analysis).
- Experience with physical characterisation techniques such as:
- Particle size analysis (e.g., laser diffraction)
- Microscopy (optical or SEM)
- Powder flow and bulk property measurement
- Interest and aptitude for particle science, laboratory experimentation, and technical problem solving.
- Scientific curiosity with willingness to adopt new techniques and support innovation.
- Understanding of HSE standards, process safety, and laboratory chemical handling.
Desirable
- Experience with automation-either in experiments or data analysis.
- Awareness of industrial processing challenges and the translation of lab-scale data to plant-scale operations.
