Senior Diagnostic Analyst- Microbiology
We are seeking an experienced Senior Diagnostic Analyst to lead microbiology operations and support safety and quality initiatives within a modern, commercial diagnostic laboratory environment.
Role Overview
You will oversee daily microbiology workflows, including bacterial identification, molecular diagnostics, culture maintenance, reagent preparation, equipment calibration, and management of culture collections. You will ensure that diagnostic outputs are accurate, reliable, and aligned with regulatory expectations.
You will also lead Environmental, Health, Safety and Quality (EHSQ) initiatives; conducting audits, managing laboratory risks, developing procedures, training staff, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
A key part of your role will be implementing quality systems, reviewing and maintaining SOPs, supporting audits, monitoring KPIs, analysing QC data, and driving continuous improvement. You will collaborate closely across teams, support technical communication, and contribute to R&D and validation activities.
About You
- MSc in Microbiology, Veterinary Science, Aquatic Animal Health, or similar (or BSc with significant experience)
- 3-5 years' microbiology lab experience
- Experience working in aquaculture and with a variety of aquaculture pathogens
- Strong skills in bacteriology and molecular diagnostics
- Experience in EHSQ management and ideally working in an ISO accredited laboratory
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems
Desirable:
- PhD or additional postgraduate training
- Experience in qPCR, histology, genomic analysis or assay validation
