Job Advert: Senior Scientist - Microbial Microbiology (12-Month Contract)
Location: Bracknell, Jealott's Hill
Pay Rate: £19.30 per hour
Contract Length: 12 months
Are you passionate about advancing biological technologies in agriculture? We are seeking a Senior Scientist to join a dynamic microbiology team at a leading international research centre in Bracknell, Jealott's Hill. This site is home to over 800 scientists and support staff, working at the forefront of global research and development in crop protection and biological innovation.
Role Purpose:
You will collaborate with molecular microbiology experts to characterise microbes for next-generation crop protection products. The position supports projects from lead generation through to development, executing work packages and contributing to key knowledge needs under the guidance of science and project leads.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute work programmes for physiological and genomic characterisation of microbes, leveraging personal expertise, in-house knowledge, and literature research.
- Document workflows, procedures, and data using best practice principles, producing reports for stakeholders to inform project decisions.
- Work collaboratively to achieve project deliverables.
- Maintain a safe and effective working environment, setting high personal standards and advising others on health, safety, and environmental practices.
Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities:
- PhD in Molecular Microbiology or a related field, or BSc plus 2-4 years' hands-on experience in molecular microbiology, microbial characterisation, or microbial physiology.
- Experience in classification of microorganisms is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of genomics, phylogeny, or bioinformatics data analysis is desirable.
- Experience in culturing and working with fungi or bacteria.
