Mechanical Engineer Internship with Sandoz (SDDC)

Job Type: 12-month Fixed Term Contract

Internship Start Date: August 2026

Hours of work: Mon - Fri (37.5 hours a week) - onsite

Location: Cambridge

Salary: £24,000 per annum, holidays, sick pay

Application closing date: 31st October 2025

Sandoz Device Development Centre (SDDC) is the Cambridge-based medical device design and development centre of Sandoz, a global leader in generic and biosimilar medicines. We help millions of patients around the world access affordable healthcare.

SDDC designs and develops drug delivery systems to support the commercialisation of Sandoz's portfolio of drug products. Our Device Engineering team has deep expertise in designing, analysing, building, testing, and optimising high-volume, injection-moulded drug delivery devices.

We are offering a year-long internship for aspiring Mechanical Engineers to join the Device Engineering team and experience the exciting journey of medical device development. Likely activities will include CAD design, technical analysis, prototyping, lab testing and reporting.

This internship will suit students with a passion for engineering and learning. Interns will gain exposure to much of the product development cycle, supported by mentorship and training. We value cross-functional collaboration, clear communication and a friendly work environment.

Interns have made significant contributions to both our projects and to our culture over the years, and we hope that a year at SDDC prepares them well for their remaining time at university and their subsequent careers. Several former interns have joined us again as graduates.

Key Requirements

  • Aptitude for mechanical design, underpinned by a solid grounding in engineering theory and a deep interest in understanding how things work
  • Bright, self-motivated, resourceful and action-oriented; confident in managing time and workload, problem solving, and meeting project deliverables
  • Personable, communicative, collaborative and happy to ask lots of questions
  • Must have completed 2 years of an undergraduate course at a UK university in an Engineering degree subject and be eligible to undertake an internship year

Desirable Requirements:

  • Some experience (within or outside of university studies) of engineering and product design, 3D CAD, and data acquisition and analysis

Note: For the duration of your internship you will be employed by SRG, who are acting as the recruitment partner for this role.

Carbon60, Lorien & SRG - The Impellam Group STEM Portfolio are acting as an Employment Business in relation to this vacancy.
