Director of IT
Location: Menlo Park / Union City, CA
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (onsite 2-3 days per week)

About the Opportunity
We are seeking a dynamic, experienced Director of IT to lead DevOps and IT strategy for a fast-growing organization in the healthcare and life sciences sector. You will own the infrastructure, networking, AWS cloud, and security foundation that supports business operations and scale, leading an IT team and partnering with leaders across the business. This role reports to the VP of IT/IS.

Key Responsibilities

IT Leadership & Strategy

• Develop and implement IT strategies aligned with company scaling goals
• Lead and manage the IT team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
• Oversee design, implementation, and maintenance of cloud infrastructure, delivering it as a service to internal organizations

Networking & Infrastructure

• Ensure reliability, security, and efficiency of networking systems
• Manage network configuration, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting
• Oversee setup, configuration, and maintenance of servers, storage, and other infrastructure
• Implement and manage disaster recovery and business continuity plans

AWS Cloud Management

• Design and manage AWS infrastructure for scalability, performance, and security
• Oversee strategy, deployment, and management of AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS, and VPC
• Optimize cloud resources for cost-efficiency and performance
• Implement and manage cloud security policies and procedures

Security & Compliance

• Keep IT security measures current to protect against data breaches and cyber threats
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, SOC 2, and other relevant standards
• Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments

Project Management

• Lead IT projects from conception through completion, on time and within budget
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on IT needs
• Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts for IT services and products

Support & Maintenance

• Oversee IT support to ensure timely resolution and high service satisfaction
• Maintain IT asset inventory and manage lifecycle processes
• Implement IT policies and procedures and ensure staff adherence

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field (Master's a plus)
• 8+ years of IT experience, including 3+ years in a managerial or leadership role
• Extensive experience with networking, infrastructure management, and AWS
• Proficiency in networking technologies (LAN, WAN, VPN, firewalls, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of server and storage systems, virtualization, and data centers
• Expertise in AWS services, architecture, and best practices
• Experience with IT security protocols and compliance standards; SOC 2 preferred
• Excellent leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
