Mechanical Engineer - emphasis in Piping Systems and Capital Project Execution

• Support the Lead Mechanical Engineer for a capital project at a chemical facility located in the Kansas City, MO area. Contract commitment from Nov 2026 to Oct 2029.

Key Working Relations

• Directly reports to Mechanical Engineering Group Lead
• Work directly under Lead Mechanical Engineer as part of a larger project team

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

• Participate as a project team member.
• Assist in the development and review of piping layouts, equipment arrangements, piping specifications, and design packages in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and site requirements.
• Assist lead mechanical engineer in development of project design requirements and assemble estimate information for mechanical / piping discipline
• Ensure piping designs meet process, operability, maintainability, and safety objectives
• Assist in project construction/fabrication package development including drawings, vendor data and specifications.
• Assist project design and close out documentation per the engineering execution process.
• Assist project commissioning and checkout.
• Assist and provide technical oversight of mechanical and piping contractors.

Required Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. Mechanical Engineering
• 12+ years of engineering experience
• Broad knowledge of mechanical codes and industry piping standards
• Expertise in CAEPIPE pipe stress analysis software
• Experience in piping system installation, startup and commissioning
• Collaborative team player capable of working well with people across all hierarchies internally and externally, including leadership
• Good interpersonal skills such as communication, listening, verbal and assertiveness
• HSE driven mindset and willingness to follow safety and engineering standards guidance.
• Ability to travel onsite. Time required onsite will vary based on project phase. Will likely be 1 day per month onsite early in the project and up to 5 days a week onsite during the startup and commissioning phase.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in COMPRESS - pressure vessel modeling software
• Located in the KC or STL area

Travel: Up to 40% averaged, occurring in phases as the project progresses:

• Design Phase (first 6 months): Approximately 2 days/month on-site in Kansas City
• Construction Phase: Approximately 1 day/week on-site in Chesterfield
• Startup & Commissioning Phase (final 3-4 months): 4-5 days/week on-site
