🔧 Digital Plant Engineer - Pharmaceutical Manufacturing | Indiana (Travel Role)
Duration: 2+ Years | Location: Indiana (Monthly travel-based assignment)
About the Role
We're looking for a Digital Plant Engineer to join a Project Automation Team supporting a major pharmaceutical manufacturing initiative. This role sits at the intersection of process engineering, automation, and digital/IT - translating operational and manufacturing needs into robust digital solutions that align with facility design and regulatory requirements.
You'll work closely with the Automation Project Team, Program Technical Office (PTO), Process Engineering, Process Technical Transfer, and End Users to shape the digital backbone of the plant - from process control and MES integration to historian delivery and data integrity compliance.
What You'll Do
- Bridge Business, Technology, and Data architectures for the facility
- Represent the automation function in Digital Plant discussions and forums
- Contribute to the Digital Strategy and Digital Plant Use Cases
- Lead data flow mapping activities across the project
- Support delivery of site-level data infrastructure (e.g., Aveva PI, Logmate)
- Shape the overall automation philosophy for the program
- Provide technical consulting as a core member of the automation team
- Interface across disciplines to ensure deliverables meet business needs
- Communicate progress, risks, and needs to the Automation Project Manager
- Maintain compliance with all training requirements
What You Bring
- BS in Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 7+ years' experience in API/bulk manufacturing within the Pharmaceutical Industry
- Strong background in automation and OT operations (DCS engineering, batch manufacturing)
- Proven ability to translate process/operational needs into digital requirements
- Experience delivering large-scale Automation Projects in Pharma
- Hands-on experience with DeltaV Batch DCS
- Exposure to MES systems and/or Aveva PI (preferred)
- Solid understanding of GMP, regulatory requirements, and computer system validation (CSV) principles
- A track record of bridging silos between process engineering, operations, IT, and automation teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, technical and non-technical audiences alike
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
Travel Requirements
- Minimum 2 weeks/month in Indiana for the first 6 months
- Minimum 1 week/month for the remainder of the assignment
