Senior Packaging Engineer (Medical Device) - Mansfield, MA (Onsite)
We're currently seeking a Senior Packaging Engineer to support high-impact product development initiatives in a fast-paced medical device environment. This is a hands-on, senior-level individual contributor role focused on packaging design, validation, and commercialization.
Location
- Mansfield, MA
- 100% onsite
Duration
- 6-month contract (strong potential to extend) Likely 12+ months and or conversion to full time.
Compensation
- Up to ~$56/hr (W2)
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead packaging development for sterile and non-sterile medical devices
- Support new product introduction (NPI), sustaining, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Design, develop, and validate packaging systems from concept through commercialization
- Partner cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and suppliers
- Develop and execute test plans, protocols, and validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ)
- Perform package testing, data analysis, and technical reporting
- Ensure compliance with FDA, ISO, ASTM, and ISTA standards
- Contribute to packaging test lab operations (sample prep, testing, reporting)
- Drive initiatives focused on quality, cost, and process improvements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of medical device packaging experience
- Strong experience with:
- EO sterilization and packaging interactions
- Packaging materials (trays, pouches, sealing processes)
- Design verification & validation (DV/PR/Process Validation)
- Knowledge of industry standards:
- ISO 11607, ISO 13485, ISO 17025
- FDA 21 CFR Part 820
- Experience with statistical sampling, data analysis, and root cause investigation
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills
Preferred Skills
- Advanced degree (MS or PhD)
- Experience with:
- GD&T and detailed specification development
- SolidWorks, ArtiosCAD
- Labeling/barcode software (Bartender, Loftware, Labelview)
- Project leadership and cross-functional coordination experience
