Construction Engineer (MEP)
We are seeking a Construction Engineer (MEP) to act as the Owner's Representative for mechanical scope on a major capital construction project. This is a hands-on, field-based role responsible for assuring construction quality, execution, and readiness for mechanical completion and commissioning across HVAC and piping systems on a $50M+ project.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Owner's Representative for MEP construction activities, with primary focus on HVAC, piping, and mechanical systems
- Perform daily field walkdowns to verify installation quality, safety compliance, constructability, and alignment with design intent
- Review installations against drawings, specifications, and P&IDs, identifying gaps and driving timely resolution
- Provide direct oversight of EPCM and contractor execution, ensuring issues are addressed-not just documented
- Validate change orders, track field progress, and escalate schedule or interface risks proactively
- Support mechanical completion (MC) activities, including punch walks, deficiency resolution, and turnover readiness
- Partner closely with commissioning and qualification teams to ensure systems are installed, tested, and turned over correctly
- Ensure QA/QC documentation, test packs, and completion records are accurate and complete
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in construction management, construction engineering, or project management, with a strong field presence
- Demonstrated experience on large capital projects ($50M+)
- Strong hands-on expertise in:
- HVAC systems
- Mechanical piping / process utilities (carbon steel systems)
- Proven experience with:
- Mechanical completion
- Commissioning (HVAC and piping systems)
- Experience serving as an Owner's Representative or working directly with EPCM firms preferred
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and P&IDs
- Pharmaceutical experience is not required
- Electrical background is a plus but not required-this role is mechanically focused
Tools & Systems
- Experience with Bluebeam preferred (training available)
- Ability to navigate AutoCAD drawings
- Familiarity with field tracking, inspection, or construction management systems is a plus
