Associate Scientist - Histology (Research Operations) (W2 Contract)
Location: South San Francisco, CA
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite (5 days/week)
Contract Duration: 12 months and then extension or conversion to full time.
Target Start: March 9
Employment Type: W2 Contract Only (No C2C / No 1099)
Pay Rate
$50-$55 per hour (W2 only) + benefits
About the Role
We're seeking a detail-oriented Associate Scientist (Histology) to support histology operations, with a strong emphasis on cryo-sectioning, tissue processing, and immunofluorescence workflows. This role is ideal for a hands-on histologist who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is comfortable operating under GLP-aligned documentation practices.
What You'll Do
- Perform cryo-sectioning (cryo-microtomy using a cryostat) as a core function
- Conduct tissue processing and embedding procedures
- Execute immunofluorescence (IF) staining protocols
- Troubleshoot histology workflows and resolve technical issues independently
- Maintain GLP-focused documentation and ensure records are accurate, organized, and audit-ready
- Partner cross-functionally with research, biology, and chemistry stakeholders
- Contribute to continuous process improvement in histology operations
Required Qualifications
- ~5 years of hands-on histology experience (flexible depending on depth of expertise)
- Strong experience with:
- Cryo-sectioning (cryo-microtomy / cryostat)
- Tissue processing
- Immunofluorescence staining
- Experience working within GLP procedures (or similarly rigorous documentation environments)
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot protocols independently
- Cross-functional exposure spanning chemistry and biology
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-first mindset
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in academic, clinical, or industry lab settings
- Experience supporting research operations or platform-based teams
- Background across both chemistry and biology disciplines
- Comfortable operating in multi-team, fast-moving environments
