Pathology Coder
We are seeking an experienced Pathology Coder (Coder II) to perform high‑quality CPT/HCPCS and ICD‑10‑CM coding for anatomic pathology (AP: surgical pathology, cytology, autopsy) and/or clinical pathology (CP: chemistry, hematology, microbiology, molecular) services.
THIS IS A FULLY REMOTE CONTRACT POSITION!
The coder will abstract clinical information from pathology reports, ensure compliance with national and payer-specific guidelines, and meet established productivity/accuracy targets. Familiarity with Epic and common encoder tools (e.g., 3M,) is preferred.

Pay Rate: $36/hr *W@ contracts only
Duration: 3 months
Required Skills:
- Required: 3-5 years of recent pathology coding (AP and/or CP). Strong applied knowledge of ICD‑10‑CM, CPT, HCPCS, LCD/NCD guidance, and NCCI edits. Courier positions
- Active coding in Pathology
- Preferred Certifications: CPC or CCS/CCS‑P, with AP/CP experience, or equivalent.
- Systems: Epic experience preferred; Microsoft Office.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret finalized pathology reports; assign CPT/HCPCS and ICD‑10‑CM codes according to official guidelines and COH policies.
- Distinguish and correctly code AP procedures (e.g., gross/exam levels, 88300-88309, special stains, IHC) and CP testing (e.g., chem panels, flow cytometry, molecular).
- Abstract and enter data accurately into the EHR/encoder; resolve NCCI and payer edits; ensure documentation supports code selection.
- Meet or exceed department productivity/quality benchmarks (e.g., charts/day and ≥ accuracy thresholds as defined by the department).
- Collaborate with pathologists, revenue integrity, and HIM QA on coding clarifications and audit findings; participate in denial prevention and appeals support.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA, CMS, and COH compliance standards; contribute to a professional, positive patient‑first culture.
