Senior Benefits Manager / Benefits Compliance Manager
Location: Waltham, MA (hybrid)
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Benefits Manager to lead the administration and compliance of our health and welfare benefit programs. This role is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance (ERISA, HIPAA, ACA), managing benefit plan operations, and providing exceptional support to employees. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with Payroll, HRIS, Legal, IT, and external vendors, and play a key role in benefits communications, wellness initiatives, and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and manage health, welfare, retirement, and voluntary benefit plans
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, ADA, FMLA, COBRA, and other regulations
- Prepare and file government forms (Form 5500, non-discrimination testing, audits)
- Oversee open enrollment, benefit changes, terminations, and new hire orientation
- Serve as a trusted advisor for employee benefit inquiries and policy interpretation
- Manage vendor relationships and coordinate with payroll for accurate deductions
- Develop and deliver benefits communications and wellness programs
- Utilize HRIS systems (Oracle, Workday, ADP, UKG Pro, SAP, PeopleSoft) for benefits administration
- Analyze benefits utilization, costs, and trends to optimize offerings
- Lead and mentor benefits staff as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
- 8+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration and compliance
- Advanced knowledge of HRIS platforms, especially Oracle
- Strong understanding of ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, and related compliance requirements
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
- Experience developing and delivering benefits education and wellness initiatives
- Professional certifications (CEBS, GBA, CPSP) are a plus
