Scientific Associate III

  • The Scientific Associate III will support the development, application, qualification, and validation of analytical methods for the analysis of proteins and peptides in support of biologics process and formulation development.

    The analytical techniques include but not limited to chromatography and capillary electrophoresis and associated detection methods such as UV, fluorescence, light scattering and mass spectrometry. He/She is actively involved in the execution of protocols and research outlines for the development of analytical methods to monitor purity, impurity, and stability of biopharmaceuticals and protein reagents; must ensure the work is performed in a timely manner and consistent with regulatory expectations. Additionally, the scientist is responsible for maintenance of analytical instruments such as HPLC, CE and LC-MS. The individual independently generates, compiles, and evaluates data for technical reports to support regulatory filings for new and currently marketed biological products.

    The candidate will also be responsible for authoring GMP related SOPs. He/she will also manage stability data from CMOs/CROs.

    The candidate must have a strong level of commitment to teamwork; capable of learning new skills; high organizational skills; demonstrates basic technical skills including problem solving; strong technical writing abilities, attention to detail; willingness to complete assigned projects efficiently and reliably. Maintains a productive and collaborative laboratory environment consistent with regulatory and company expectations.

    Technical Responsibilities:

    • Extensive experience with a wide variety of chromatographic methods for protein and peptide analysis (reverse phase, ion exchange, size exclusion, hydrophilic interaction, and affinity chromatography) as well as related techniques such as capillary electrophoresis.
    • Excellent instrument skills including the use of standard and capillary HPLC systems and their associated detectors.
    • Experiences with mass spectrometry and biophysical techniques is helpful.
    • Skilled in the application of scientific design principles and analytical methodologies to the problems associated with biologicals and/or biopharmaceutical development.
    • A working knowledge of the requirements of working in a GLP or cGMP environment is helpful.
    • Excellent writing and communication skills.
    • Consistently delivers on commitments and responds to customers’ needs in a timely and courteous manner

    Documentation:

    • Maintain and complete all required documentation including logbooks, lab notebooks, and analysis records in a timely manner.
    • Prepare methods, qualification reports, investigational report, protocol as required.
    • Participate and contribute at group and project meetings as required (e.g., prepare and present results and conclusions to project sub-teams).


    General Laboratory Responsibilities:

    • Perform all analytical activities per applicable safety guidelines, departmental guidelines, and cGMP requirements.
    • Obtain necessary chemical reagents, reference standards and other components from appropriate sources.
    • Maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation.


    Scientific Excellence:

    • Demonstrate efforts to improve the standard of all aspects of scientific work by showing initiative and leadership in the laboratory, learning new techniques, demonstrating problem solving ability and attention to detail.
    • Maintain current knowledge and skills in all facets of analytical sciences by keeping informed through reading the literature, attending related seminars, and presenting at department meetings when required.

    Education and Experience:

    BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related science field with minimum of 2 years of relevant industrial experience.
