Commercial Development & Portfolio Director (Remote)

Position Overview:

The Commercial Development and Portfolio Director role develops and executes strategies meant to maximize sales and profits for the clients existing and emerging product portfolio. The Director will gather and analyze the necessary market information, insights, or other data meant to support product development & launches, and existing product portfolio optimization, through regularly assessing customer needs, competitive and industry insights and trends to successfully position the clients products or services. The Director will identify opportunities to optimize the portfolio and new product development/enhancements through becoming an expert on the clients current portfolio, how and where the products are used, and the sources of leverage or gaps that exist. The Director will report to the Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communications, and partner with inline Marketing and Commercial Operations teammates to inform and support the development of successful launch and promotional plans.

Responsibilities may include:

  • New Product Recommendations: Identify and leverage market trends and intelligence, and partner with VP of Marketing, Chief Development Officer, commercial operations, sales, and clinical development & pharmacy services teams to recommend portfolio actions and/or new products that will meet customer needs, add differentiation vs. competitors, the forecasts the opportunity, etc
  • New Product Launch: build market and product opportunity assessments and collaborates with Marketing team members to inform product launch and /or promotional efforts
  • Portfolio Management: partner with cross functional stakeholders and executive management to maximize the life cycle of priority products and ensure both current portfolio and the pipeline are optimized for commercial success. Responsible for the end-to-end management of product portfolio: from supporting new product development assessments to existing portfolio maximization (i.e., identify gaps, opportunities, etc.) Recommends products and/or services that could be discontinued or targeted for expanded utilization; then, partner with Marketing, sales and commercial operations colleagues to initiate comprehensive marketing plans Work with product management team to develop a plan
  • Reporting and Analytics: Conduct monthly analytics, reporting and performance diagnostics to understand areas of strength and weakness in key product performance and recommending actions. Researches the 503B compounding and traditional pharmaceutical manufacturing segments to collect, analyze, and interpret data that would inform our portfolio development while identifying market trends, customer behavior, pricing, or other performance indicators to build business cases that are aligned with company goals and drive commercial success
  • Presents findings to senior leadership along with recommendations for to drive commercial success (i.e, packaging, pricing, promotional plans, etc)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in upstream product, portfolio or commercial development areas within pharmaceuticals or medical, with a general understanding of the hospital market preferred
  • Strategic with strong analytical and forecasting skills; ability to synthesize information to develop expert perspectives in an area and understanding of key insights and trends
  • Solid organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and execute on your work with minimal direction; strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task to achieve goals
  • Experience in working cross-functionally and as an intersection point between Marketing and other functions
  • Very adept with applications like Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, must be comfortable presenting a point of view to internal groups and senior management
  • Occasional non-traditional work hours and travel required
