Biomedical Scientist/Advanced Dissector - Cellular Pathology

Role:

  • I have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Biomedical Scientist.
  • This position is new in the business and is very much a developing role.
  • We are looking for an experienced dissector with competency to dissect specimens up to RCPath category E.
  • You will have significant experience and competencies in this level of dissection.
  • You must have the ability to work unsupervised and the confidence to liaise with Pathologists across the country.
  • You should be visionary and have a flair for pushing the boundaries of routine practice to innovate and develop a future proof first class service.
  • This role will be pivotal in cascading dissection training in RCPath A-C specimens to all the other Biomedical Scientists working in Cellular Pathology.
  • In addition to the dissection this position will be responsible for the daily throughput of the routine work, co-ordinating the staff so that KPI's are maintained and exceeded.
  • You will have excellent technical ability and participate in all areas of the routine laboratory.
  • This position will work with the Cellular Pathology Service Managers and the Medical Director to plan and develop BMS reporting. You will be an advocate for BMS reporting at my clients H/O showcasing to customers the skills and knowledge of the Biomedical Scientist team.
  • Following successful completion of training and competency in Histopathology there may be opportunity to be involved in project and developmental work and the potential to work in other disciplines such as Molecular Diagnostics and Genomics following suitable training.

Requirements:

  • You must be a registered Biomedical Scientist:
  • Experienced and registered RCPath category E. Experienced dissector with significant experience to dissect specimens up to RCPath category E. This will include; Routine cellular pathology (from specimen reception, to QC), specimen transfer/dissection (Category A- C specimens), cryotomy, special stains, immunohistochemistry and HER2 fluorescent in-situ hybridisation (HER2 FISH).
  • You will train to perform FISH enumeration of breast and gastric specimens.
  • It is essential you have experience of working towards ISO 15189/UKAS accreditation and use of QPulse Quality Management software.
  • You must have the ability to work unsupervised and the confidence to liaise with Pathologists across the country.
  • The key attributes of the successful candidate are attention to detail, team player and able to work unsupervised, ability to work with accuracy within sometimes pressurised environments and an ability to take initiative, work flexibly and to meet tight deadlines.
  • You will be a key member of a team of scientists and Laboratory assistants all working together to ensure the best service for the patients.
