Location of placement
Syngenta, Jealott's Hill International Research Centre, Bracknell, Berkshire.
Syngenta is the leading agrochemical company in the world, with active research into new chemical products, seeds and the application of biotechnology to enhance and protect crops. Jealott's Hill, established in 1927, is a centre of excellence for discovery and bio-performance research and is our largest research site, employing over 800 scientists and support staff. Duration- The placement will start in July 2023 and run until June 2024.
Area of chemistry-Synthetic Organic Chemistry
In Synthetic Chemistry you will work as part of a team to plan routes to, synthesise, purify and characterise biologically relevant compounds using a range of techniques and equipment. During the placement you will learn about how to design compounds with herbicidal activity and interpret the data from biological assays as well as having plenty of opportunity to communicate your work with your team. There is also the option of working towards RSci accreditation during your placement.
Specific requirements of the post
Good knowledge of organic chemistry, practical skills and the ability to work in and interact with a team. A passion for applying chemistry to the life sciences.
Payment and Terms
The salary is £ 20,000 per annum, including a paid holiday entitlement. Assistance in finding suitable accommodation is available. Membership of the recreation club allows access to a range of on-site sports facilities including a fully fitted gym, tennis courts, all-weather pitch and sports fields along with trips to shows and events.
