Title: Senior Shift Analyst

Salary: £15 per hour plus shift uplift

Contract length: 1 year plus extensions

Shift patterns: days and nights

Location: Huddersfield

  • To work as part of a shift based Quality Control team providing a round the clock analytical capability in line with site business and HSEQ needs.
  • To carry out routine and non-routine analysis or planned development work (as directed by the QCESG Team Leader) on final, process control, environmental and experimental samples
  • To highlight trends in analytical data and alert the customer in a timely manner so that they may make appropriate interventions that will maintain manufacturing and compliance targets.
  • To provide first line support to satellite laboratories, out of hours, to ensure smooth running of at-line analysis
  • To be part of the operational safety team under direction of the Duty Manager during site emergency management situations

Role responsibilities

  • Carry out routine analysis of final, process control, experimental and effluent samples using a wide range of analytical techniques whilst ensuring that the data produced meets both business and HSEQ compliance requirements
  • Plan own workload ensuring that sample lead-times are met and foresee, communicate and resolve potential priority conflicts as they arise
  • To highlight trends in analytical data and bring these to the attention of QC Team Leader and Production Chemists in a timely manner
  • Carry out first line trouble shooting and resolution of analytical problems so that a reliable service is restored as rapidly as possible. Where this is not possible then the issue should be escalated to the next technical level
  • Provide first line analytical support to satellite plant laboratories as required
  • Carry out non-routine analysis or non-routine/development work with direction from the QC Team Leader
  • Help to train new and junior members of staff as directed by the QC team leader
  • Follow laboratory procedures to ensure that work is carried out safely and that satisfactory hygiene/ housekeeping standards are maintained
  • Perform, record and report all analysis in accordance with the established quality system
  • Monitor the performance of analytical equipment and methods and assess the fitness of analytical results
  • Under the direction of the Duty Manager, perform supporting administrative duties during incident management situations

Job requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Chemistry related degree
  • Industrial experience in an analytical setting
  • HS&E related requirements for working in a laboratory, e.g. CoSHH
  • Quality requirements for working in a laboratory, e.g. ISO 9001 QMS
  • Good communication skills
