Senior Chemist - Product Development Permanent Cambridge, UK £ Competitive salary and benefits

SRG is currently working closely with a new, exciting biotechnology company, to support their search for an experienced Senior Chemist - Product Development. They have developed a cell manipulation platform which allows them to drastically change drug discovery workflows in the pharmaceutical industry. As part of their mission, they are looking to appoint an experienced Chemist to design and optimise novel assays down to single cell performance.

Key responsibilities as a Senior Chemist - Product Development include:

 Characterize, troubleshoot, and improve existing processes and/or chemistries to establish robust and reproducible product or process performance Optimising reagents and assay formats for multiple biological and biochemical applications Working closely with our cell and molecular biologists, chemists, software developers and microfluidics engineers to define appropriately controlled in droplet workflows Generating SOPs, experimental plans, and result reports Communicating with the quality team to ensure assays are developed in line with verification and validation requirements Develop small scale reagent and consumable manufacturing processes, QC methods, and perform analysis of large data sets ready to transfer for manufacturing Perform a wide range of functions, including development of novel consumable reagents, chemistries, assays, characterization / QC methods, and customer facing / manufacturing processes Liaising with and coordinating 3rd parties for potential combined assay development Key requirements for a Senior Chemist - Product Development are:

 A PhD in Chemistry / Biochemistry, or equivalent industrial experience, with lab-based postdoctoral experience in industry  Solid knowledge in protein chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry and fluorescent dye chemistry  Hands on experience developing and validating protein biochemistry and bead-based assays with a range of readout formats  Understanding and hands-on experience of surface and conjugation chemistry  Deep understanding of biomolecules, such as nucleic acids, peptides, proteins, as well as the tools and methods used to characterize their properties and interactions  Experienced with a range of biochemistry, quantitative physical chemistry and biophysical methods, such as IR, Raman, MS, NMR, liquid chromatography, DLS, etc.  Deep knowledge of buffers, membranes, surfactants, and aqueous-oil interfaces  Familiarity with relevant software and analysis techniques to reliably interpret assay data  Experience working with interdisciplinary and cross-functional teams  Excellent problem-solving and communication skills  Ability to work independently - organised with good record keeping skills

Advantageous experience  Microfluidics / in-droplet assay formats  Experience with surface-based spectroscopy methods is a bonus  No wash assays  High throughput assays  Downstream -omics techniques  Quality Standards such as ISO 17025 and 13485
