Job Description:
The Operations Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the facility. This includes overseeing day-to-day operations, managing budgets, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining positive relationships with employee unions. The ideal candidate will have a strong manufacturing background, proven leadership experience, and the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations Management: Oversee all aspects of facility operations, ensuring optimal production efficiency, high-quality output, and adherence to deadlines.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage operational budgets, ensuring cost-effective processes and achieving financial targets.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a diverse team of production staff, supervisors, and support personnel, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Union Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for labour relations, working closely with union representatives to ensure fair and effective communication and resolution of labour issues.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards, implementing robust health and safety procedures to minimise risk.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and reduce operational costs.
- Reporting: Provide regular reports to Managing Director on key operational metrics, including productivity, budget performance, and workforce management.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to ensure smooth coordination of resources and timely project delivery.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Manufacturing Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in an operations management role within a manufacturing environment.
- Leadership Skills: Proven track record in leading teams, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Budgeting & Financial Acumen: Experience in managing operational budgets and controlling costs without compromising quality or safety.
- Labour Relations: Experience working with or liaising with unionised labour forces, with a solid understanding of labour agreements and dispute resolution.
- Problem-Solving Ability: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot operational issues and implement practical solutions.
- Safety Management: Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations, with experience in implementing safety programs.
Preferred Skills:
- Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritise and multitask.
