Chris Blackburn joins Impellam Group’s STEM portfolio as Head of CSR to spearhead new initiatives, including a new STEM corporate charity partnership with Lucy Air Ambulance for Children
Impellam Group’s portfolio of STEM brands have appointed Chris Blackburn as Head of Corporate Social Responsibility in a bid to renew focus on giving back. This role is a first for the group of recruitment giants, which includes Lorien (technology and digital recruitment), SRG (life sciences recruitment), and Carbon60 (engineering recruitment).
Chris joins Impellam Group STEM with a strong background in people development (including in a previous role at the Group), and experience across the private, public, and charity sectors. Commenting on the appointment, Kelly Morton, STEM CEO, said:
“I am delighted to welcome Chris back into Impellam in this newly created and incredibly important role. Corporate Social Responsibility is not something that can be done off the side of someone’s desk. We need to be mindful and present of the decisions we make – and to consider the ethical, moral, and social impact of those decisions for both people and the planet. With Chris at the helm of our CSR strategy, I can be confident that we are always working towards the greater good and leaving behind a better world for future generations.”
Chris Blackburn said:
“I am thrilled to re-join Impellam Group STEM at such a key turning point. I’ve loved meeting the passionate people that are already driving CSR in pockets all over the business, working with our senior leaders to re-align our CSR strategy, and building a roadmap for the future. I’m excited to see the difference we can make.”
Chris has already made significant changes to the STEM portfolio’s CSR strategy, including setting up a new CSR alliance, implementing a Give as You Earn scheme, and running a STEM-wide survey to select a new charity partner for 2022/2023 – Lucy Air Ambulance for Children (registered charity 1138457).
Lucy Air Ambulance for Children (Lucy AAC) is a national charity that flies babies and critically ill children to hospital by aeroplane to receive specialist treatment and care.
For Chris, the decision is a significant one:
“As Impellam Group STEM, we’ve never been in a position where the people have chosen – and overwhelmingly chosen – a long-term charity partner. It’s been wonderful to see how engaged everyone is – with a record turnout for voting – so I feel really positive about our ability to drive change. Lucy AAC has links to our STEM background, but it’s also such a deserving charity and one that needs our support – only two in four children that need help receive it due to current funding. I’m hoping we can change that!”
About Lucy Air Ambulance for Children
Lucy Air Ambulance for Children (Lucy AAC) is a national charity that ensures babies and critically ill children can access specialist treatment and care, wherever they are in the UK. Often the only way these children can access this care is to travel between hospitals by aeroplane and we are the only air ambulance charity in the UK that provides this unique service. These transfers provide life-changing outcomes for the children Lucy AAC fly, including children being discharged from long hospital stays, overcoming diseases like cancer and receiving a diagnosis which finally enables families to gain new support from other organisations that are disease/disability specific. The NHS does not have any budget for air ambulance transfers and relies on Lucy AAC to provide this essential service at no cost.
